Please note: classes are subject to change and not all classes run every week.
We enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with small classes - you will never find more than 12 in a class - so lots of individual attention if you want it.
The styles we currently offer are Hatha and Yin. You will find a brief explanation of the two styles and even better, why not try both and see which you like best.
Hatha is a traditional style of Yoga which is a good mixture of standing, balancing, mat postures, flows, breathing, meditation and relaxation. The underlying aim of Hatha Yoga is to balance Body, Mind and Emotions. It is a great way to develop flexibility, suppleness and strength and improve the efficiency of your breathing. Regular practice helps you develop a calmer outlook on life. Classes vary from week to week.
Yin is a great complementary style for those already practising yoga - it allows the soft tissure in and around the muscles and in joints including the spine to gently stretch for longer to aid comfort and flexibility . It is also a very calming and relaxing style. There are variations in pose to suit all anatomies - yin is evolving so no longer just a complementary style it is becoming a style in its own right.
Beginners These classes are intended to help you start to develop Hatha Yoga skills by cultivating the simple classic Yoga poses, so you can do them well and grow with them. You will be encouraged to develop your physical and mental awareness and experience the energy flow in your body through movement, quiet introspection and self observation. After a while you will probably be ready to move to one of the other classes.
Beginners workshops This is a 3 hour workshop for people who have never done Yoga before, which acts as a prelude for those who want to go onto the beginners class. It will introduce you to the idea of Yoga, how to approach posturing, breathing and some guidelines as to how to take care of yourself and get the most out of your Yoga classes. These are run periodically throughout the year (often Saturday mornings) and can be arranged specially for a group of 4 or more friends who would like to attend together.
Pre-natal Yoga Yoga can help women get through their pregnancy with minimal discomfort. It also helps the birth and post-delivery stages. Yoga classes help to boost circulation and also help with fluid retention. The stretching exercises relieve aches and pains. Posture is also improved by yoga and this can help ease back problems, which are common in pregnant women. Yoga helps to prepare for the birth - it encourages breath and body awareness, reduces worry and teaches women to adapt to new situations. And yoga continues to have benefits after pregnancy, too. Postnatal yoga, which can be started about six weeks after the birth, strengthens abdominal muscles and your pelvic floor. It also helps you to get back to your pre-pregnancy shape faster.
We currently have vacancies on most of our classes - please telephone 0161 764 1440 or email mindandbodybury@gmail.com to book
Equipment - no need to bring your own mats or blankets we have a supply in the studio, although you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. If you are coming regularly you may choose to build up some other equipment like bolsters, blocks etc (which we sell) although there are many people in the classes who do not have lots of equipment and we can improvise.
What to Wear - nothing special - just loose fitting trousers and a comfortable T shirt will be fine. If you want to wear specialised yoga gear that's fine too.
Workshops - approximately monthly we hold a Saturday morning workshop that lasts for 3 hours and gives time to cover some on the things that we cannot cover in a regular class in greater depth. Usually the workshops are themed for a specific aim whether that is a condition i.e. back care or amore detailed look at specific postures etc.
Everyone is welcome to our classes and workshop whether they attend another class but want the extra practise at the weekend or are attending one of our classes during the holidays when their regular class is closed.
Attending our classes You do not have to attend the same class each week and can mix and match.
The cost is £45 for 10 classes and these can be used over a 12 week period (to cover if you are away a couple of weeks). If you prefer you can pay £25 for 5 classes to be used over a 6 week period. Most people want to come to one class to try it first to see if they enjoy it - we have a facility for this so that if you are new you can have a one class trial for £6.50 - if you decided to continue you would then normally move to the block payment method. All payments are in advance and non-refundable and we ask that you always have at least one booking ahead.
