  1. anxiety1

One of the conditions that I am most frequently asked to help with is Anxiety.  Anxiety can be very debilitating causing difficulties in the workplace and with personal relationships as well as having to suffer that nervousness and mild fear that seems to be there most of the time.

Here are some ways that hypnotherapy can help to manage nd/or alleviate unwanted anxiety.

If you can focus on the present moment, often called mindfulness, rather than projecting into the  future, based on past experiences your anxiety will lessen.

Hypnotherapy can help by introducing new thought patterns that can be more beneficial than some of those old negative thought patterns.

The mind is very powerful and taking more control over some of your thoughts can be truly amazing.  This is especially useful with specific fears and phobias when creating altrnative thoughts can have dramatic outcomes.

    Defining Your Inner Strengths

Everyone has qualities and strengths that they are not aware of.  Sometimes a strength is hiding behind what you have always perceived as a weakness.  Small thought adjustments can present you with untold new strengths and resources.  For instance if you have always felt that you are over critical, the hidden strength you might discover is that you can be discerning and able to be relied upon to do a good job.

Hypnotherapy could help you to recognise some of these hidden qualities and see them for the strengths that they could be.  The way you see yourself will change as you change your thought processes.  As children we often get moulded into our beliefs about our weaknesses and sometimes have been misguided and suppressed.

    Mental Rehearsal

Imagining yourself in a situation that is causing you problems and seeing a successful outcome and confident handling can have great effect when done with hypnosis.  The advantge of hypnosis is that everything is very compelling and images can be enhanced and made more attractive..  Luckily the mind cannot discern a difference in something that is imagined with full emotions and something that is real, so rehearsing an event beforehand wil give that same buzz as if you actually did it. Great for anxiety that is specific to a situation.

It's Okay to not be happy all the time

We spend our time trying to create a utopia life.  Our lives are precarious as is the world.  We would not be normal if we did not sometimes feel down, worried, in pain....  Yet we try to fight against the physical pain that we feel as well as the emotional downs.

This fight creates a tension that effectively makes the original condition worse and can lead to health issues and physical conditions.

Going with the pain whether that is physical or mental pain will at least prevent you suffering more than you need to and give you more space to discover a better way forward.  You will often notice a significant improvement and thoughts will pass through your mind more readiliy if they are allowed to be and not resisted.

Whilst all this might seem like a mountain to climb for the consicous mind when in hypnosis it is a simple and quick method of making you more comfotable.

    thumbs up

  2. Anne from the Hospice called in today to update us with the amount of money we raise.,  We had a target of £500 and we exceeded it by a small amount.  It was made up of on line donations/payments and cash on the day.  We would like to thank everyone who donated and /or contributed to the day.  Also we couldn't have done it without the yoga course trainees who gave their time freely in support of the event.

Visit the hospice Christmas shop on the Rock.  We have donated a meal for two in Zen.  Who knows, you might win.  Or if you have anything to donate just pop in.

  3. bad children

I was inspired to write this blog by the illustration above by Jenna Rose.

It's an illustration of how we can make our children bad or good (whatever that is) and that's another blog.

If you only look for the things that your children do that need correcting, then  by telling them they are being naughty or they are bad or little devils etc.,  the only communication they get with you is that they are bad/wrong/naughty.  And the tone of your voice will emphasis the seriousness of the message.

It is possible that they are quite 'good' kids really but that you don't bother telling them.  You might tell your friends that you have good kids but not the kids themselves.

The more 'mistakes' the more they have the opportunity to learn the correct approach to whatever it is, but that's providing the message telling them they have made a mistake is transmitted correctly.

If you say you are a naughty child for doing that, then that is a status message.  A status message is something that just is, like you are a child, or you are tall.  So the more they are told that they are bad or naughty or evil or worse then the sooner that becomes their status.  You wonder why your child seems to be getting worse.

If you convey exactly the same message but in a different way then that has a totally different influence.  For instance 'Oh you are such a good child and that was a wrong thing to do because it was hurting someone else'  or whatever fits the circumstances and your tone of voice is firm but maybe a little surprised, then the status message is that they are good but they have made a mistake which they can learn by.

This is especially important in the formative years btw.  As children get older the language has to change a little or the  message feels like condescention.  So 'I'm suprised, that's not like you.' or 'I am relieved that you are mature/sensible enough for me not to worry about you being influenced  into taking drugs.'

As we get older and the effects of negative messages start to rear their heads and make us feel at best unsettled.  We can't find peace with ourselves and feel almost sabotaged by something within.

We start reading books with positive affirmations (to compensate for the negative ones).  making positive affirmations work is a chore and takers dedication and commitment to undo the negative feedin from the most influencial years of your life.

Parents are not bad either, it's probably the way they were treated.  But let's try and stop the loop.  Lets think before we speak and try to give our  children the best messages about themselves that we can.

Many adults end up in therapy just to clear out the implants from the past.  many don't know there is anything wrong.

If you would like to work with people to help them find the best in themselves and get rid of nagative implants then my hypnotherapy course is starting in April.  Ask me for the prospectus.

  6. Why choose a therapy centre?

When there are so many therapists around, why is it advantageous to choose a therapist working within a centre.

One of the many advantages is that as there are a range of disciplines practising there it is more likely that your therapist will be able to discuss and ask advice off colleagues if an additional or alternative therapy is indicated.  Within a centre you have a smooth progression  to the new therapist and especially if an additinal one is indicated then they can work together quite easily.

Therapist working within a centre are likely to have a broader view of therapies rather than just a focus on their own and in fact will often have tried a selection of the other therapies on offer, often doing a 'swap' with colleagues.

We have a great example of this going on right now within the centre as Jenny, our beauty therapist is starting to attend pregnancy yoga classes with Suzanne and will be having a course of hypnotherapy for childbirth with Andrea soon to prepare for the birth.  Andrea goes to Jenny (when she can get an appointment - booked up) for a beauty therapy (can't you tell!) and no doubt Suzanne will be taking advantage of the facilities soon.

Other good reasons are that you can be more assured that your therapist has good qualifications and insurance if they are working from a centre as the centre will require it.
They will have guidelines to adhere to for their governing organisation, and also will be required to adhere to some additional professional guidelines by the centre.

You can also be fairly sure that your therapist is committed and is taking their work seriously not just fitting the odd client in here and there so will have gained experience.

It's okay to  relax and rest assured that there are unlikely to be interruptions.  A therapist working from home or worse from your home will not in some cases be in as much control of the environment  making that relaxing experience a bit harder to achieve.

Just a thought - something to consider when you are choosing a therapist.
